 Experimentally trying to look at interactions between how much a diagram can communicate the original mathematical symbols. Using alternative visualizations that are not canonical and exploring how it can lead us to better understand how the math at hand works.   Using iterative designing of the visuals at each step to see whether the system created by the visual coheres nicely with the mathematical symbolism.
